Chumphon town is a sleepy city in
Chumphon province southern Thailand.
Chumphon province southern Thailand is about 450
km south of Bangkok and a rather small province.
The main highway No. 41 cross from north to
south.
The whole Chumphon province is very little
developed for any kind of tourist activities.
It's strange since Chumphon province has about
140 miles of coastline and plenty of attractive
Islands with a lot of attractive beaches -the
beaches are not maintained- , coral reefs and
very clear water.
Since the Chumphon province borders the Gulf of
Thailand the weather is also quite stable. There
are a few good hotels but most people just drive
through on their way from Bangkok to the south.
The Chumphon region southern Thailand is
beautiful and worth exploring, the strong point
in terms of tourism in Chumphon is that the
whole area is quite untouched and covered with
lush tropical vegetation, it looks very pretty.
Even huge wide trees give shadow to the highway.
One negative is that the Chumphon No.41 highway
-that is Thailand's north - south highway
running from Bangkok to all the way down to the
Malaysian border- is in bad condition not only
around Chumphon.
Holes and very bad repair works lets the car
jump up and down, the driver is forced into a
permanent slalom to avoid the worst.
This creates constantly dangerous situations
since the trucks and buses do it the same way
and one can understand what happen when long
trucks and buses go slalom at almost 100 km/h.
The result is many end up in the ditch, the
other day I drove from Phuket to Bangkok and
counted 8 heavy accidents on this one journey,
where trucks, buses and Pick up's have landed in
the ditch. |
